about me…

Simon King-Underwood

Trained at Epsom University for the Creative Arts in ‘Fashion illustration and Photography’ and graduated in 1994. This was followed by quite long absence from the creative scene as I turned my focus onto family life. Proud father to 4 children.

Now they have flourished themselves I have been able to continue my own artistic journey. I work part time importing goods from overseas to fund my Art which allows me the ‘luxury of freedom to experiment’, which I cherish.

My creative time is split between living in Houghton, Cambridgeshire where I am a member of a weekly lifedrawing group, regular residential trips to North Norfolk coast, particularly Wells-Next-The-Sea.

Work

My current work is a mixture of both figurative and landscape art and geometric photography. Occasionally I flirt with fashion illustration when I feel inspired that way.

More recently I have been experimenting with geometric art and digital photography and have been working under the description ‘Geometric Constructivism’.

I use geometric marks to describe nature in a semi-representative way so the subject is still recognisable but somehow different. I like to play with the subject using unfamiliar mediums, I do not consider myself as a painter but as an artist.

Music

Music fills the air in my studio. Sijazz is also my Dj name. I am massive music fan and have large collection of vinyl records. To me art and music are ‘like brothers’. I am into modern jazz, latin, funk, soul, drum and bass, hip hop, house.

A lover of the drum, my working style often mirrors these expressive music forms. I follow a beat layering on top my own creative rhythms in a freeform way.
